SCR companies feature among Yorkshire’s fastest growing

A car dealership giant, a salvage and recycling company, and a consumer goods wholesaler are among the businesses from the Sheffield City Region to feature in Insider’s latest Growth 100 ranking.

The full table, which ranks companies based on growth over a five-year period, can be found in the latest edition of the Yorkshire Business Insider.

Among the businesses from the Sheffield City Region to feature was Motorhog, the largest business in a four-way merger of salvage and dismantling companies that formed Synetiq group last year. The group employs 450 staff and handles about 100,000 vehicles a year.

Executive chairman Tom Rumboll told Insider: “Lockdown has been a fascinating journey into the resilience of this business. Initially, volumes of vehicles were much reduced – there are fewer cars on the road, fewer miles travelled, fewer accidents. But the demand for our used vehicles and parts has never been higher. People aren’t using public transport as willingly so there is a huge demand for value cars at the lower end.”

One of the largest companies to feature is Stoneacre Motor Group, based in Thorne, Doncaster, which recorded turnover of almost £1bn in its most recent accounts.

The group represents 22 franchises in 93 locations at 47 branches, as well as two Harley Davidson and one Triumph franchise, in 11 counties and North Wales.

Also featuring is Pricecheck, a Sheffield-based wholesaler and distributor of fast-moving consumer goods, which has grown turnover from £40m to £100m within five years. During that time, it has has made significant investments in talent, technology and its facilities, growing its team from 80 to 220, and moved to larger premises.

Pricecheck sells more than 6,000 branded products to customers in the UK and to in excess of 80 countries globally.

The 2020 Growth 100 table is featured in the August edition of the Yorkshire Business Insider, available now.
