Scoular extends Asian supply chain, inks bypass protein deal

Adrian Gasparian, president of Scoular Asia, said he anticipates imports and distribution to begin by the end of 2022.

Vietnam, noted the company, is a key importer of agricultural commodities with a large and growing market in that segment.

Scoular has also hired two employees in Vietnam and expects to employ up to 12 additional staff members there, including a country manager, within the coming months. The company said its executives are set to meet with customers in Vietnam this month to determine the best combination of assets and investments that will add value to their business.

Vietnam is Scoular’s latest example of geographic expansion in the Asia-Pacific over the last several years, having expanding its regional headquarters and trade office in Singapore, established a soybean cleaning and distribution operations in Indonesia, and feedstuffs and grain distribution operations in Indonesia and Myanmar as well as establishing a fishmeal facility in Myanmar to provide high-quality, consistent and quick delivery of marine proteins to Asian feed markets.

Bypass protein production

Meanwhile, the Omaha, Nebraska headquartered Scoular announced this week that it has expanded its existing feed blend facility in Jerome, in Idaho and next month will begin producing bypass protein products for Papillon Agricultural Company

Dairy farmers in the Pacific Northwest will have access to such proteins as a result of the new manufacturing arrangement that the Maryland based company secured with Scoular.

Founded in 1983, Papillon develops and produces nutritional products for dairy cattle, with the goal of maximizing feed efficiency at the farm level. It says its protein blends provide concentrated, highly digestible bypass protein and meet the demand for balanced amino acids in dairy diets. This allows for ration optimization to drive production or reduce costs.
