Schneider Electric’s ambitious Zero Carbon Project has seen it named overall winner in the CIPS Excellence in Procurement Awards 2022.
Under the project, Schneider has partnered with its top 1,000 suppliers – which represent 70% of the company’s carbon output – to halve their operational emissions by 2025.
The Zero Carbon Project, launched in 2021, sees Schneider providing tools and resources to suppliers to help them set and achieve their own carbon reduction targets.
Globally 1,019 suppliers are formally onboarded and have committed to strong decarbonisation. More than 70% of participating suppliers are embarking on an emission-reduction trajectory for the first time.
As part of the programme an extensive supplier support framework has been deployed, comprising mentoring, exclusive access to a web portal with the latest training, and advisory support from Schneider.
In less than a year nearly 40% of those suppliers have shown average reductions of around 4% in carbon emissions.
This work is part of Schneider’s wider goal of achieving a net zero carbon emissions in its supply chain by 2050.
Along with overall victory, Schneider also won Best Sustainability Project of the Year.
The judges said: “It’s a fantastic initiative with massive impact across 1,000 suppliers. It shows impressive ambition with a good measurement of the progress.”
The awards were presented at a glamorous ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane, London, with headline sponsor RS Components.
