The Santa Barbara County Food Bank is preparing to open 20 to 25 additional emergency food distribution sites to make groceries and produce easily accessible during the coronavirus pandemic.

They’ll also be giving out protective gloves to all volunteers and recipients.

“We’re also working with a population that isn’t necessarily prepared to have extra food, like to stock up on two weeks of extra food. Sometimes when you’re paycheck to paycheck you just simply cannot do that and people potentially looking at lost wages so we want to make sure that we’re continually adjusting and updating our processes as these events unfold,” said Laurel Alcantar, Santa Barbara County Food Bank Development Manager.

The Food Bank is also considering making deliveries to people 70 and older.
