Sales rise at Cheshire beer wholesaler

A Cheshire beer and wine wholesaler has reported a sales rise of more than £8m and said it would continue to expand its product range.

Hammonds of Knutsford , which employs 30 staff at its base in the village of Great Warford near Knutsford, posted revenues of £43.1m in the year to 31 March 2022, up from £34.1m the prior period.

Operating profit rose by almost £1m to £3.7m from £2.7m while pre-tax levels increased slightly to £4.48m compared to £4.47m.

Notes accompanying the newly filed accounts said: “The directors will continue to expand the product range and customer base across the UK by attracting high calibre sales staff to add to the current team.

“The company aims to build long-term relationships with customers and the business model is not reliant on one particular sector or group of customers.

“The company’s cash position continues to be satisfactory so it is not vulnerable to interest rate movements and it also enables the company to take advantage of any opportunities to purchase stock available at special prices which, in the current economic climate, puts the company in a strong position.”

Looking ahead, it added: “The company will continue to sustain a healthy margin that will fund organic growth and if necessary, cover any unforeseen circumstances that may arise in the years to come.”

Hammonds of Knutsford was founded in 1960 and is family owned.
