
NAVI MUMBAI: Acting on a tip off, the Uran police in coordination with the rationing officials from Uran tehsildar office raided a shipping company’s godown in Jasai, on July 31 for hoarding around 2339 tonnes of wheat meant for public distribution system (PDS) that was being sold in black market.
The seized foodgrains stock is estimated to cost Rs 4.67 crores. The rationing inspector has sealed the godown and an FIR is registered against the godown manager and shipping company’s owner.
Somninga Birajdar, Rationing Inspector at Uran tehsildar office has registered a FIR against the two accused persons Pravin Anchal and Suman Kumar, the owner and manager of ‘In Line Shipping Pvt Ltd’ respectively. They have been booked under relevant sections of Essential Commodities Act, 1955 and Targeted Public Distribution System Control Order,2015 for hoarding and black marketing huge quantity of PDS wheat and allegedly adulterating PDS wheat with foodgrains procured from other companies.
As per the FIR by Birajdar, on July 29, Uran police station‘s senior inspector Sunil Patil informed him that a huge stock of PDS foodgrains was hoarded at the godowns of In Line Shipping Pvt Ltd company in Jasai for selling them in black market. Hence, after obtaining permission from the Uran tehlsildar, on July 30 around 10.30 am, the rationing department team of inspectors, nayab tehsildar and circle officer along with Uran police raided the company’s godowns, where they found huge consignment of wheat bags with printed logo and name of Food Corporation of India. The wheat bags belonged to the government of Rajasthan, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh. As many as 46,787 bags of wheat, each bag weighing 50 kgs, was found stocked at the godown. The entire consignment collectively estimated to cost Rs 4,67,87,000 was seized by sealing the godown.
