Ludhiana, September 21

Even as the police claimed to have cracked the case of Rs 5.57-lakh loot from a trader near the Industrial Estate post office on September 14 with the arrest of four persons, including an employee of the victim Vishal Jain, four armed persons robbed Rs 4.43 lakh in broad daylight from the owner of a cycle parts factory on Old Shimlapuri Road here today. The robbers, riding two motorcycles, also fired a few shots to scare him away when the factory owner grappled with one of them in a bid to catch him.

According to Rakesh Kumar, around 12.30 pm, four persons riding two bikes entered his factory and one of them fired shots to intimidate employees, while the others forced him to handover cash to them. Although, the factory owner handed over Rs4.43 lakh to one of the robbers, he also grappled with one of them while the robbers were about to escape.

“In fact, the shot was fired at me but it missed and the robbers fled with the cash. The robbery was completed within a few minutes and the robbers fired four or five shots without hitting anybody,” he said.

Senior police officials conducted preliminary investigation. The factory did not have a CCTV camera but the police were looking for other CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity and also at the main road taken by the robbers to escape.
