Rs 3.4k crore loss in turnover as mandis remain shut for 2 days | Jaipur News

Jaipur: There has been a loss of Rs 3,400 crore in the turnover as the mandis in Rajasthan remained shut on Tuesday and Wednesday.
While the traders incurred a revenue loss of Rs 68 crore, the central and state governments faced a loss of Rs 120 crore, said chairman of Rajasthan Khadya Padarth Vyapar Sangh Babu Lal Gupta. According to the sangh, even the farmers will face losses due to the stock limit on pulses as their produce will not be sold in large quantities in the mandis.
The sangh had decided to shut business transactions at all the 247 mandis (of food items) and 600 pulse mills protesting the Centre’s order to impose stockholding limits on all pulses, except moong, held by wholesalers, retailers, importers and millers till October 31.
The stock limit of 200 tonnes had been imposed on wholesalers provided they do not hold more than 200 tonnes of one variety of pulses, the Union food and consumer affairs ministry order had stated. On retailers, the stock limit will be five tonnes. In case of millers, the stock limit will be the last three months of production or 25% of annual installed capacity, whichever is higher. Lastly, for importers, the stock limit will be the same as that of wholesalers for stocks held/imported prior to May 15, 2021. And for pulses imported after May 15, stock limit applicable on wholesalers will apply after 45 days from date of customs clearance, the order stated.
“We demand that the Centre’s order to impose stock limits on pulses must be withdrawn immediately. The pulse mills can run for 12 months only if there is stock of food items for six months. Usually, they have a stock of just three months. Second, the farmers are bringing large quantities of foodgrains to the mandis. If we tell them that our stock limit has exhausted and we will not purchase their produce, then they will be at a loss. Third, the consumers will also suffer because of shortage of supply food items,” said Gupta.
