PASIR PUTEH: A RM9mil ice factory, being built by the National Fishermen’s Association (Nekmat), in Tok Bali, here, is scheduled for completion in September.
Semerak Assemblyman Wan Hassan Wan Ibrahim said construction of the factory was now 90% completed.
“When in operation, the factory will be able to produce 200 metric tonnes of ice blocks a day and would benefit about 400 deep-sea fishing boats and coastal fishermen.
“Upon completion of the factory, fishermen in Tok Bali will no longer have to go to Tumpat for their supply,” he said when met by reporters at his office in Cherang Ruku, here on Friday (Feb 4).
Apart from that, he said, it would also attract more local deep sea fishing boats to land their catch in Tok Bali.
“This is because some of them landed their catch in the neighbouring country so that they can get their supply of block ice there before going back to the sea,” he added. – Bernama
