Results dip for cash and carry wholesaler

Turnover and pre-tax profits at a cash and carry wholesaler and food distributor dipped during its latest financial year.

Nottingham-headquartered Hyperama has reported a turnover of £138.1m for the 12 months to 26 January 2020, down from £142.1m, while its pre-tax profits went from £1.3m to £374,000.

The business, which was founded in 1992, sells groceries, wines, spirits, tobacco and household goods and also imports and distributes ethnic foods.

Hyperama has sites in Nottingham, West Bromwich, Peterborough and Derby and has deals with the likes of Coca-Cola, Kellogg’s, McVitie’s, Unilever, Nestle and Walkers.

A statement signed off by the board said: “The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the business post year has been challenging, but the directors have sought to address these challenges by reducing all non-essential costs and furloughing staff where possible to safeguard the economic future of the group and ensuring it utilises available government financial support, where appropriate.

“The group has experienced some growth in its turnover levels, post year end, as business has continued in the pandemic and cash flows remain healthy.

“The directors have prepared forecasts for the group for a period to January 2022 for a variety of scenarios and therefore, consider that the group has adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future.”
