The removal of the “container classrooms” – the prefabricated classrooms set up as a temporary solution to overcrowding – at the St Paul’s Bay Primary School is in the cards, but is awaiting the conclusion of a procurement process.
Education Minister Owen Bonnici was replying to a question by opposition whip and district MP Robert Cutajar.
The overcrowding at the St Paul’s Bay school has been addressed this scholastic year, following the long-awaited opening of a new primary school in Qawra. The new school was opened last month, 3 years behind schedule.
The Qawra school was originally set to serve as a replacement for the St Paul’s Bay school, but it has since been decided that it will be complimenting the older school instead. The two schools serve what has now become Malta’s most populous locality: the older school was built before it experienced a population explosion.
