The Prospect Heights Police Department’s annual Thanksgiving Food Drive Distribution event helped 92 families this year.

Tuesday night (Nov. 26), off-duty Prospect Heights police officers, city officials and other community members gathered at the Harper College Learning and Career Center, 1375 S. Wolf Rd., in Prospect Heights to volunteer their time and help the community.

Prospect Heights Community Liaison Officer, Lara Batten, said that the police department received a lot of support from the community during the drive and the distribution events.

There were arts and crafts for children to engage in while their parents were at the food drive.

The partner community organizations that attended were Creekside Health, WINGS, Omni Youth Services, Northwest Compass, Freiman Law, Prospect Heights Public Library, Journeys – The Road Home, Jojo Comfort Dog (Living Christ Lutheran), River Trails Park District, Prospect Heights Park District, Indian Trails Public Library and the Wheeling Park District.

During the weekend of Nov. 22 through Nov. 24, the Prospect Heights Police Department held its annual food drive at Tony’s Fresh Food Market, 1241 E. Rand Rd., and received so many food donations that department staff had to empty out a rented 15-foot-long truck three separate times.

What was different about the food drive this year than in previous years was Tony’s had assembled premade donation bags for customers to purchase with a $10, $15 or $20 value. People were also able to donate loose food items and give monetary donations as well.
