Profits rise at health food wholesaler

A Southampton-headquartered wholesaler of health food, supplements and associated products has posted a rise in profits.

Founded in 1998, CLF Distribution specialises in a number of lines including sports nutrition, organic and health food, vitamins, minerals and supplements, household products and chilled and frozen goods.

It operates out of a purpose-built warehousing facility in Southampton, supplying more than 11,000 products from more than 1,000 brands.

For the year to 31 December 2021, CLF Distribution reported turnover of £43m compared to £45.5m the prior period.

Meanwhile, pre-tax profits soared from £670,539 to £1.11m, while operating profits also increased from £788,453 to £1.23m.

Directors noted that despite the small dip in sales, they are encouraged by the overall improvements seen in efficiency and productivity.

During the year, the company also embarked on what it called a “new and exciting chapter in our history” as it became an employee-owned trust in December.

“Our management structure and our overall mission remain unchanged, that is, to build upon CLF’s position as the wholesaler of choice to independent retailers by reinvesting financial gains in our people, our industry and our planet,” said a statement alongside the results.
