About Us
This is an exciting opportunity to join the procurement service at Mole Valley District Council. We operate as part of a Shared Procurement Service which provides specialist procurement advice and support to Crawley Borough Council, Horsham District Council, Mid Sussex District Council and Mole Valley District Council.
The head office location for the shared service is Crawley Borough Council; and you will be situated between all of the shared service locations (which also includes Horsham and Haywards Heath) depending on the projects that you are assigned to, and team needs. Travel between sites will be compensated.
About the role and team
We are looking for two experienced individuals to join Mole Valley District Council in the role of Procurement Officer.
This is an interesting and varied role with scope to build experience across a broad range of category areas, which includes Professional Services, Construction & Regeneration, Facilities Management, Community & Culture and IT.
We are looking for enthusiastic, flexible individuals who thrives on challenge, with a strong desire to continually improve practice, and who can deliver an excellent customer focused service.

A key part of the role will be to take forward a variety of procurement projects from OJEU tenders to undertaking mini competitions through framework agreements so you’ll need to have demonstrable experience of developing comprehensive tender documentation, be an innovative clear thinker, with the ability to work with a team to deliver a project on time.
Working with, and advising, senior officers and heads of service will be a key part of the role so you’ll need excellent interpersonal and influencing skills.
You will need to build strong and positive relationships and champion a best practice culture with stakeholders that ensures savings are made through innovative procurement and contract management.
About you
You will be involved in developing best practice procurement policies and guidance, undertaking market and supplier analysis to inform procurement activity, and delivering training so an eye for detail and the ability to undertake research and analysis is essential.
It is vital that you are a team player and happy to help and support others. This is a busy service with often changing priorities, so you will need to be well organised, resilient and adaptable.
Previous knowledge and experience of procurement (preferably MCIPS or near MCIPS qualified) and the ability to develop positive relationships and well written documentation is essential.
Local government experience is desirable, but not essential.
