The procurement of minor millets like Kodo, Kutki and Ragi, the traditional crop grown by forest dwellers, began in Chhattisgarh on Wednesday for the Kharif season 2021-22.
Under the procurement, which will conclude on January 31, Kodo and Kutki will fetch Rs 30 and Ragi at Rs 33.77 per kg respectively.
Due to lack of minimum support price for them, the production of millet crops like Kodo, Kutki and Ragi was gradually decreasing during the last few years, an official statement said.
To promote their production in forest areas, it was decided to procure the minor millets through the Chhattisgarh State Minor Forest Produce (Trading & Development) Co-operative Federation Ltd.
The procurement on support price will be done through self-help groups formed at village level and ‘Haat Bazar’ (village market) through the primary committees.
Chhattisgarh Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain told 14 District Collectors of tribal dominated areas to make necessary arrangements for proper storage of these millet crops.
