COLOMBO (News1st) : The government has decided to amend its procurement guidelines to assist local industries, cabinet spokesman Bandula Gunawardana said.
Raw materials for construction, furniture, housing appliances, software and hardware materials will be purchased locally instead of being imported for the state sector.
“We also reached a decision to ensure construction contracts will be awarded to local contractors as much as possible,” Guanwardana told reporters on Thursday.
He said that this decision has been made for the first time in the country’s history.
