Prepare to meet natural disasters: CM

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday chaired a meeting of the State Natural Calamity Management Committee and asked the administration to be prepared for the any disaster.

He said the State’s natural disaster management policy is based on the objective that every life is precious and Odisha has become the front-ranking State in this domain.

Patnaik underlined the need for strengthening early preparedness as the period from June to October is very crucial for a disaster-prone State like Odisha with floods, cyclones and drought recurring in this period usually back to back.

He asked the administration to ensure that people get early information, complete preparedness on rescue and relief, drinking water, health facilities, animal helpline, storage of food items in remote areas, effecting 24×7 district helpline and alert to fire and ODRAF teams, etc.

Revenue and Disaster management Minister Pramila Mallick said 879 cyclone and flood shelters have been readied including 55 new ones built out of the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
