Power outage caused fire at Tuffy’s factory

No one was injured in a contained equipment fire broke out at Tuffy’s Pet Foods on Frist Avenue North, in the original factory.

A call was made to the fire department around 10:22 p.m. when the brief power outage on Tuesday, May 12, caused a piece of equipment that runs at a high temperature to set some product on fire, Tuffy’s General Manager John Ebeling said to the Focus over the phone. The fire spread into the ductwork near the equipment but did not spread to any other part of the factory.

Ebeling said that the fire did cause a minor set back in production. However, the ductwork is being replaced this week and the factory should be up and running again next week.

According to Ebeling, the Perham Fire Department responded to the fire with the help of the Vergas and Dent Fire Departments.
