BENTONVILLE — The origin of Wednesday’s fire at United Industries may have been discovered.
Jake Feemster, city fire marshal, indicated preliminary data show the possible origin of the fire was in the area of an electrical pole with a failed electric terminator, according to Friday’s news release from city spokeswoman Debbie Griffin.
The investigation into the origin and cause of the fire is ongoing with the assistance of state and federal authorities, according to the release.
Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Boydston said Thursday the fire burned so hot, it collapsed three silos and melted nearby electrical lines. It started in an outdoor storage area, but didn’t reach the building housing the manufacturing plant at 1900 E. Central Ave., he said.
The company makes foam products and the silos held polystyrene pellets, Boydston said.
Heavy, black smoke billowed into the air for hours although the fire was contained about 90 minutes after it started at 11:30 a.m.
No one was injured in the fire.
