Pokemon Sword and Shield Confirm Next Distribution Event, But There’s a Catch

Pokemon fans in Europe are getting a big treat starting tomorrow, with Pokemon Sword and Shield receiving their latest Distribution Event. While fans on other continents, unfortunately, won’t be able to participate, this is an excellent opportunity that fans in the UK and EU won’t want to miss out on.

From tomorrow, September 9, until September 30, Pokemon Sword and Shield fans can get codes for three Mythical Pokemon by visiting select retailers across the continent. While the complete list of every store participating in this event is unavailable, the Mythical Pokemon are confirmed as Genesect, Volcanion, and Marshadow.

This news came courtesy of Serebii.net, a long-running Pokemon fan site that has been a recurring and reliable source of information on Pokemon giveaway events. Fans in the UK can reportedly collect their codes from British retailer GAME, while French Pokemon fans can grab theirs from Micromania stores. Finally, Dutch and Belgian fans can get theirs by visiting GameMania stores during the Distribution Event. Note that fans will receive all three codes on a single card, so they don’t have to worry about making multiple trips or rushing between different stores.

For anyone who isn’t up on their Pokemon lore, Mythical Pokemon are rare and powerful to the point that many people in the Pokemon world doubt their existence. They have been distinct from Legendary Pokemon since Generation 5, with Legendaries found through random encounters while Mythical Pokémon are generally acquired via special events. This month’s Distribution Event thus represents a rare opportunity for European Pokemon fans to snag these powerful Pokemon.

Game Freak introduced Genesect as part of Pokemon’s Generation 5. A dual Bug/Steel-type Pokemon, it resembles a robot as much as a large creature. It’s notable for having multiple elemental forms based on which, if any, of four Drives are installed in the cannon on the Pokemon’s back. Meanwhile, Volcanion is a Fire/Water-type Pokémon introduced in generation 6 and had a major role in the third Pokemon The Series: XY movie, Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel. Finally, Marshadow is a tiny and adorable Generation 7 Fighting/Ghost Pokemon made of smoke and known in the game’s universe for its remarkable ability to move unseen through the shadows.

All three Pokemon would make great additions to any trainer’s collection, so Sword and Shield fans may want to act quickly. Pokemon’s Generation 9 is right around the corner, with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet launching on November 18. However, there is still enough time for fans to take advantage of Pokemon Sword and Shield’s latest Distribution Event.

Pokemon Sword and Shield are available now for Nintendo Switch.
