Plainfield Public Schools will Distribute Food During Winter Recess

PLAINFIELD, NJ — The Plainfield Public Schools district has added an extra day of food distribution for students on Tuesday, December 29 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. during winter recess. The distribution will be held at Plainfield High School, 950 Park Avenue, at the Arlington Avenue entrance. Both drive-thru and walk-ups are welcome.

The additional food distribution day was made possible by Maschio’s, the district’s food service, that has been distributing grab and go breakfast and lunch on a daily basis at all the schools since the start of the pandemic.

Chef Andre James, supervisor of Maschio’s, said, “The food will be for four days to cover families until the new year. The last time students picked up food for four days was Wednesday, and we did not want to leave gaps during the winter break.”

Since the start of the pandemic, Maschio’s has distributed over 5,000 meals. On a bi-weekly basis, they are also able to provide USDA Farmers to Families food boxes donated by the Union County Freeholders, the Food Bank and other organizations. The food boxes provide fruits and vegetables and other perishables such as bread, milk, juice and meat.

This coming Tuesday’s food distribution will be held only at the back of Plainfield High School.

According to the Plainfield Public School District, it is the only district in the area that is providing food during the winter break.
