PH rice stocks down in February

THE country’s rice stocks inventory dropped by 26.6 percent to 1.60 million metric tons (MT) at the start of February as compared to 2.19 million MT in the same month last year, data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) showed.

Based on its latest monthly inventory report, the PSA said around 54.9 percent of the total rice stocks inventory during the month were with households, 33.9 percent were from commercial warehouses/wholesalers/retailers and 11.3 percent were from National Food Authority (NFA) depositories.

According to the PSA, stock decrements in rice stocks were noted in all sectors.

Rice stocks in households declined by -25.3 percent.

Stocks in commercial warehouses/wholesalers/retailers and NFA depositories, likewise, dropped by -23.1 percent and -40.1 percent, respectively

Month on month, rice stocks inventory dropped by -13.5 percent in December.

The PSA said stocks inventories in all sectors recorded drawdowns.

Household stocks fell by -11.0 percent, stocks in commercial warehouses/wholesalers/retailers by -17.3 percent and in NFA depositories by -13.0 percent.

Meanwhile, the PSA said the country’s corn stocks inventory was 472,570 MT, down by -21.2 percent lower compared with the February 2021 inventory level of 599,690 MT.

The total corn stocks inventory was 6.8 percent lower than the previous month’s inventory level of 507,150 MT.

Of the total inventory, 19.9 percent were from the households, while 80.1 percent were from commercial warehouses.

The PSA said household corn stocks dropped by 58 percent while stocks from commercial warehouses/wholesalers/retail increased by 0.8 percent.

Compared to the previous month, corn stocks inventory in commercial warehouses/wholesalers/retailers declined 12.7 percent while stocks in the households grew by 27.3 percent.
