Officials at Panasonic say they are going to close a factory in southwestern Japan that makes video cameras. Intensifying competition and weakening demand are behind the decision.
The plant manufactures equipment for professional use. Customers include TV stations and video-production companies.
The officials say operations will be transferred to a factory in Osaka.
About 300 employees will keep their jobs and be relocated to the other plant. The move excludes temporary staffers.
Panasonic has been accelerating structural reforms.
It is leaving or scaling back involvement in unprofitable sectors such as LCD-panel production and semiconductors.
