Oil industry feels impact of supply chain shortage

SALISBURY, Md. – If you’ve notice the price spike at the gas pump, then you may not be surprised that it’s coming to your regular oil change as well. Now, the supply chain issues are now impacting the oil industry.

We checked in with local maintenance shop Grease Monkey who says they’re feeling the shortage.

We’re told prices in oil increased as early as September due distribution issues the industry is now facing. There’s also a lack of the oil in circulation, causing many shops like Grease Monkey to buy at retail at higher prices.

Owners tell 47ABC that although price points may get competitive shop to shop, they’re focused on giving customers the best quality service for their vehicles without digging deep into their pockets. “Customer service is going to be our only differentiator. We can not rely on our vendors and our distribution, we have to work with our loyal customers and our customer service our techs can provide,” Owner Kris Zyla said.

“That’s how we’re going have to survive in our community. That’s what we can control, that’s what we have to do.”

Grease Monkey says they haven’t had to spike prices up much yet. We also told this problem is expected to go well into the new year.
