Ohio prepares for distribution of possible COVID-19 vaccine

Ohio Governor MikeDeWine says he doesn’t know when a vaccine will be available but says the state is already preparing for one and notes that a vaccine is the key out of this pandemic.

During a stop at Cleveland’s Burke Lakefront Airport, Governor DeWine said on Tuesday the state will post an online dashboard where doctor offices and hospitals can begin signing-up to receive the vaccine as soon as it becomes available.

“We can see the end of this,” said DeWine. “I don’t know when exactly the vaccine is going to be available in Ohio, but we are getting ready in Ohio.”

The stop was a part of Governor DeWine’s efforts to bring awareness to the growing number of Covid-19 cases.

“I understand people are sick of wearing masks, they’re sick of social distancing, they’re just sick of the whole thing,” said DeWine.

But, DeWine said there is a way out, and when a vaccine becomes available Ohio will be ready to distribute it effectively.

DeWine said distribution will begin with the most vulnerable – nursing homes, first responders, and healthcare workers.

“And I think once people see how that goes that people are going to be very willing to have the vaccine,” said DeWine, noting that the vaccine is part of the key to herd or community immunity.

“We’re going to have that and that’s going to come and when we get that we’re going to be out of this, but we’ve got a few months ahead of us that’s going to be tough,” said DeWine.
