A manufacturer of glass bottles and jars for the food and beverage sector plans to establish a new factory in Kentucky, state and company officials announced.
O-I Glass Inc. said it is adding manufacturing capacity amid increasing consumer demand for recyclable and sustainable food packaging. The facility in Bowling Green is expected to supply makers of premium spirits, including key customers in Kentucky’s bourbon industry.
The Perrysburg, Ohio, company also said the new plant would be its first to be purpose-built for its MAGMA technology, which officials said would “redefine the glass production process.”
The first production line in Bowling Green is expected to begin operations in mid-2024, and the company plans to subsequently add two more lines. The project could eventually amount to $240 million in capital investment and 140 new jobs.
O-I CEO Andres Lopez said the company is focused on being “the most innovative, sustainable, and chosen supplier” of packaging solutions and that this new plant is a valuable milestone in its plans for continued expansion and growth.
O-I says it serves major food and beverage companies from 70 manufacturing facilities across 19 countries. Its workforce totals more than 24,000 employees.
