Odisha MLA threatens to immolate self over paddy procurement irregularities


Bhubaneswar: Subash Chandra Panigrahi, the legislator from Deogarh Assembly Constituency, today threatened self-immolation over alleged irregularities in paddy procurement in the State.

Raising the mandi mismanagement issue in the House today, the BJP MLA sat on dharna in the well of the House demanding the State Government for smooth process for procuring paddy at various mandis.

“I will immolate self if the paddy procurement process was not streamlined and faulty token system was not addressed in the State,” Panigrahi threatened.

However, he returned to his seat on request of the Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro. Amid ruckus, the House was adjourned till 4.00 PM.

Earlier in the day, senior Congress leader Narasingha Mishra had staged protest in the House demanding the statement from the Government over the irregularities in paddy procurement.
