Northfield Township Road District Delivers Glenbrook North Food Drive

NORTHBROOK, IL —Team members from Northfield Township Road District recently picked up 12 pallets of boxed food donations from Glenbrook North High School and delivered them to the Northfield Township Food Pantry to complete GBN’s week-long Foodapalooza food drive.

The donation is expected to help over 1,100 local families, according to Northfield Township.

Donations were collected by Glenbrook North students, faculty and its community to help local families experiencing hard times. The Food Pantry has seen its client base more than double during the last two years.

“Our neighbors have never experienced anything like this before,” said Tim Rueckert, Northfield Township Road District Highway Commissioner. “With the pandemic still impacting local families coupled with the supply chain issues going on right now, a donation of this size is critical to the health and welfare of our community.”

In total, approximately 13,000 canned goods were collected.

“It’s our pleasure to be able to serve those who need food in our community and to team up with the Northfield Township Road District,” said Dr. Michael Tarjan, GBN’s Assistant Principal for Student Activities and organizer of the food drive for the last 17 years. “As an annual school-wide project, it’s great to work together for a local cause to help others in a time of need.”

Shiva Mohsenzadeh, Northfield Township Supervisor, expressed appreciation for the significant donation stating, “We’re extremely grateful to the GBN family and our community for supporting this drive. The items that were collected will supplement what we have in stock and provide food to thousands of Township residents. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of our neighbors who are food insecure.”
