North Platte drive-thru food distribution

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – Hundreds of people lined up for a drive-thru food distribution Monday.

People started lining up at 8:00 a.m. Volunteers loaded up boxes of food into vehicles at the Parkade Plaza. About 1,200 boxes were distributed to local families.

The distribution is a sponsorship between the North Platte Noon Rotary and Hot Meals USA.

“We have an affiliation with them and they had several truckloads of food that were available and so we said we would take them,” said NP Rotarian Bob Mayber. “It originates from the USDA and it’s called Farm to Family Program, so we are just trying to help people because we know there is a lot of people that have food insecurity right now in our community and that’s what Rotary does is help other people.”

A similar distribution will take place in Ogallala next week. A distribution is tentatively being scheduled for McCook the following week.

The rotary would also like to thank Sunrise Rotary, Carhart Kitchen and Bath, White Tail Screen Print, the City of North Platte, Pro-Printing and Graphics and Bob Mayber for helping make Monday’s distribution a success.

The North Platte Rotary plans to have another food distribution in the coming weeks.
