A fire that started in a tractor trailer at the loading dock spread to another trailer before ending up in the egg factory itself Monday afternoon.
The fire broke out around 4:40 p.m. at a factory owned by Nearby Eggs Inc. in the 2800 block of Daron Road in Codorus Township, according to York County 911.

Approximately 100 firefighters worked the scene, which incident commander Kelby Walter of Jefferson Fire Company appears to have started as an electrical malfunction in the refrigeration unit of a trailer containing eggs. The fire spread to another trailer and then into the factory itself.
Walter said the factory mainly sustained smoke damage, with some fire extending up the exterior wall above the loading dock.
The facility has chickens on site, but not in that building. There was no immediate word on how many eggs were lost in the fire.
Numerous fire departments responded to the working fire dispatch, with several additional units requested by Walter to assist because of the intense summer heat.
No one was injured in the incident, but the Red Cross was on hand to help the firefighters handle the heat.
The factory suspended operations, and officials are waiting for a ruling from the Department of Health on when it can be resume.
