The former Lisk Manufacturing complex on Gorham Street in Canandaigua is getting a new purpose.
While the factory is long gone, the property deteriorated until a Rochester-based company came along.
Capstone Construction and Real Estate Development saw an opportunity there. Don Lasher, who leads the company, was reluctant, but saw potential.
I saw a potential for this space for loft-style apartments,” he told the Finger Lakes Times. “We’ve done this in Rochester, so knew what we were getting into.”
The property was purchased in 2016 and work began in 2019 to gut and renovate the property. The factory buildings will now contain 33, 30, and 20 units respectively. The first phase of development is a $17 million investment. Meanwhile, the second phase will be office and restaurant space.
“In doing the renovations, we discovered an old rail car that had been buried on the site containing fuel oil. We had to deal with that. Apparently someone just dug a hole and put the car in there and covered it with stone,” Lasher told the FLT, speaking to the surprise.
The apartments will range in cost between $1,000 and $1,800 per month.
