NC president Deuba demands fair probe into alleged corruption in medical procurement – myRepublica

KATHMANDU, April 3: Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba has demanded a fair probe into alleged irregularities in the procurement of medical equipment to contain the novel coronavirus.

In a press release on Friday, Deuba expressed serious concern over the alleged anomalies in the medical equipment procurement saying that the incident is totally inexcusable at this hour of crisis.

He called upon the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority to launch impartial investigation into the alleged irregularities in the medical procurement scam.

The NC president’s statement comes two days after the government scrapped a controversial medical equipment procurement deal signed with Omni Group.

The former prime minister asked the prime minister to sack those involved in the alleged irregularities.

Concluding that the incident has tarnished the entire country’s prestige, Deuba urged Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to facilitate in launching the fair investigation in Rs 1.24 billion procurement scam.

The NC president said that his party has extended its full support to the Oli-led administration in the prevention and containment of the novel coronavirus.

“We have advised the government to accelerate efforts to contain the COVID-19 on war footing. At the same time, we have urged the government to maintain transparency, calm and follow the due procedure in its ongoing efforts,” Deuba said.

Likewise, Deuba also expressed concern over the removal of the news content from the website of www.kathmandupress.com, a Kathmandu based online news portal. He urged the government to initiate action against those involved in the incident.
