Nationwide Boro procurement begins | The Daily Star

The government today started the procurement of Boro paddy across the country. Boro paddy is being procured directly from farmers at Tk 27 per kg.

The procurement of rice will start from May 7. The collection will continue till August 31.

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder inaugurated the nationwide procurement programme of Boro through a videoconference, joining from the conference room of the Food Department.

The food minister said, “No one can buy paddy without a license and store it illegally. Food Department needs to be informed about who is buying and selling how much paddy to which mill owner. This information must be sent to the department on a regular basis by the food officials.”

The minister said the process would be closely monitored.

He stressed that the mill owners must reach an agreement with the Food Department between May 7 and 16, and that the deadline will not be extended.

He further said that a specific plan is required to make the procurement drive a success. He directed the Food Department officials to complete the procurement activities according to the plan, rather than rushing at the end of the procurement drive.

Representatives from the Food Departments of Tangail, Naogaon, Dinajpur, Sunamganj, Mymensingh, Brahmanbaria, Barishal, and Jhenaidah; as well as senior district administration officials; mill owners; and representatives of farmers, were virtually present at the programme.
