Nafed doubles its onion procurement

PTI reports Nafed has procured 95,000 tonnes of onion directly from farmers at prevailing rates for creating a buffer stock on behalf of the government.

Last year, the cooperative had purchased a total of 57,000 tonnes of onion from the 2018-19 Rabi (winter) crop under the Price Stabilisation Fund (PSF).

A source is quoted saying Nafed will achieve the target of procuring 1 lakh tonnes in the next few days.

Meanwhile, the cooperative has raised its operational storage capacity in Maharashtra and Gujarat to 30,000 tonnes.
