Mother-daughter arrested outside factory; woman defrauded of $700: Brook Park police blotter

BROOK PARK, Ohio –

Arrests on warrants: Brookpark Road

A mother and daughter were arrested at about 1:15 p.m. Feb. 4 outside Dove Die and Stamping Co., 15665 Brookpark.

Police were called to the company regarding the daughter and her brother arguing over ownership of property. When police arrived, the daughter said her brother took her television out of her vehicle. The brother countered that both the TV and vehicle were his.

Police determined that the vehicle was registered to the brother. The mother said the daughter stole the TV from her brother’s home, where the daughter used to live.

Police then learned that the mother and daughter were wanted in Willowick. A second daughter, who was also at the scene, was wanted in Parma. However, Parma police were unable to pick her up, so Brook Park police reminded her that a warrant had been issued for her arrest.

It’s uncertain why the family was outside Dove Die and Stamping or if any of them were employees there.

Theft by deception: Rademaker Boulevard

A Rademaker woman called police Feb. 6 and said someone defrauded her of $700.

The woman had purchased a smart TV from Amazon. During the TV setup process, she was required to provide a code Amazon gave her. However, the code didn’t work.

The woman visited Amazon.com/code to resolve the problem. There, she was directed to call a 1-888 number. She spoke to a male, who told her that her Amazon account had been hacked. He said someone in Texas was using her account to make purchases and that he needed to verify her location.

The male instructed the woman to buy a $200 Google Play gift card from a CVS Pharmacy and call him back with the card number. He said the money would be deposited into her bank account. She followed the male’s instructions.

Then the male asked the woman to buy a $500 Target gift card from Rite Aid, and she did, again reading the card number to the male. When the male asked the woman to buy a third gift card, she refused. When she asked the male when the money would be deposited into her bank account, he hung up.

The woman called the 1-888 again several times but each time the phone rang three times then stopped.

Shoplifting: Snow Road

An unidentified male stole eight packs of baby wipes and three packages of Pampers diapers Feb. 4 from CVS Pharmacy, 14372 Snow.

The theft was reported at about 1:30 p.m. A CVS worker saw it happen. The man left the store without paying for the merchandise and drove away in a sport-utility vehicle. The worker wrote down the license plate number.

Sudden illness: Burton Drive

A Brook Park man, 48, was found passed out at about 11:15 p.m. Feb. 8 in a Cadillac Deville parked partly on a Burton tree lawn and partly on the street.

The man awoke when police pounded on the car window. He said he was tired and had fallen asleep. As he searched his wallet for identification, police noticed a bloody syringe in a bag. They asked the man to step out of the car.

The man consented to a pat down. Police found an unmarked pill bottle, containing waddled-up foil, in his sweatshirt. When asked what was in the foil, the man said, “It might be dope.”

After further questioning, the man admitted that he had injected heroin. Police called paramedics, who determined that it wasn’t necessary to take the man to a hospital. Police released the man, and the Cadillac’s owner, a relative of the man, parked the car in her driveway.

Assault: Agnes Boulevard

A resident at Sweet Home Health Care on Agnes Boulevard told police Feb. 10 that he witnessed a caregiver assault another resident at the group home in January.

The resident said the caregiver hit the other resident with a belt. The Sweet Home administrator told police that a second employee, upon his firing in January, also reported that the caregiver, whom she also fired, had struck the resident.

The administrator said she reported the incident to the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities. A board staff member told police that after an investigation it was determined that the assault report was unsubstantiated.

Nevertheless, the board is assessing the Sweet Home staff and planning to train caregivers there how to deal with the resident who reported the incident and the resident who reportedly was hit.

Theft: Sheldon Road

A catalytic converter was stolen between 9:30 a.m. Jan. 22 and 2 p.m. Feb. 2 from a vehicle parked outside Foseco, 20200 Sheldon. The vehicle belonged to a Foseco employee.

Sudden illness: West 150th Street

A Brook Park man, 70, was taken to Southwest General Health Center in Middleburg Heights at about 8 p.m. Feb. 7 after he overdosed on drugs.

The man’s daughter called police. When police arrived, paramedics were treating the man. The daughter told police the man had taken one oxycodone pill, although the medication was not prescribed to him. He also had smoked a bowl of marijuana and consumed 15 doses of a seizure medication.

Police learned that a warrant had been issued for the daughter’s arrest. However, the agency that issued the warrant didn’t want to take her into custody because she was intoxicated, having smoked marijuana with her father.

Sudden illness: Edgehurst Drive

A Brook Park man, 26, was taken to a local hospital at about 4 p.m. Feb. 5 after he overdosed.

The caller said the man was barely breathing. When police arrived, the man was walking with assistance from paramedics, who had administered Narcan, a heroin-overdose antidote. Police found no illegal drugs or drug paraphernalia at the scene.
