Mississauga now home to Walmart Canada’s new 450,000 square-foot distribution centre

Walmart Canada, in partnership with SCI Canada, opened the doors to their latest 450,000 square-foot distribution centre in Mississauga, earlier this year.

To celebrate the milestone, a ribbon cutting took place last week.

The distribution centre will be used solely to fulfil Walmart Canada’s online orders.

“We’re proud to have partnered with SCI to create this distribution centre, as it provides a customized end-to-end solution that suits our growing business needs,” said Alexis Lanternier, executive vice-president of e-commerce, Walmart Canada, in a release.

The addition of the distribution centre is part of Walmart Canada’s strategy to strengthen and grow its e-commerce business side. The centre is SCI’s biggest dedicated and purpose-built building.

Walmart Canada’s website sees approximately 750,000 customers daily.

The centre features a number of state-of-the-art technologies to streamline operations, including a software that provides real time visibility to operations.

“The retail business is constantly evolving and becoming more complex,” said Guy Toksoy, vice-president, operations, SCI, in a release.

“SCI’s commitment to continuous improvement and innovation helps our clients meet increasing e-commerce demands, and we were excited to partner with one of Canada’s largest retailers to go beyond conventional logistic services and adapt an automated model to best suit Walmart Canada’s needs.”

The new distribution centre will join Walmart Canada’s three existing distribution centres in the city.
