New Delhi: A fake coin manufacturing factory was busted in Haryana by Special Cell of Delhi Police and counterfeit coins worth over Rs 10 lakh were seized. Cops also seized raw materials and semi-finished coins weighing around 674 kg with a value of more than Rs eight lakh if converted to counterfeit coins.
On April 22, police conducted a raid from Tikri border to Jharoda Kalan Road near PVC market in Mundka and apprehended one Naresh Kumar. A total of 10,112 counterfeit coins in the denomination of Rs 10 were seized.
Kumar told police about a factory at Imlota village in Haryana’s Charkhi Dadri. Subsequently, a raid was conducted at the factory. “The factory was in operation for the last one and a half months. Kumar and his associates manufactured and circulated fake coins worth Rs 10 lakh since the factory was started,” said an officer.
DCP (Special Cell) Rajeev Ranjan Singh said the factory was established in an isolated room on a 1,000 square yard plot with a soundproof roof to maintain secrecy. “During the raid, we nabbed four people — Dharmender Kumar Sharma, Santosh Kumar Mandal, Dharmender Mahto and Shravan Kumar Sharma. They are residents of Bihar,” the officer said.
The arrested men were hired by Kumar and paid 25 paise for manufacturing one coin. The coins were manufactured using brass and steel. One labourer used to make 1,500-2,000 coins each day.
The coins were in the denomination of five (4,020 coins), 10 (12,332 coins) and 20 (200 coins). Apart from the coins, hydraulic machines and stickers with the printing of Indian government were also found in the manufacturing unit. “Kumar had already been arrested in four similar cases in Delhi and Haryana,” the officer said.
In 2016, Kumar started a manufacturing unit of counterfeit coins along with Siddharth Luthra and Upkar Luthra at Bawana, but it was busted by police. Mandal was managing all the things in the factory and the other accused were labourers.
