Thiruvananthapuram: Minister for Food and Civil Supplies GR Anil dismissed the reports on the hike in rice prices in the state. Addressing the media here on Friday, he informed that only certain brands have increased the price of rice.
The minister said that he contacted the wholesaler immediately when he saw the news about the hike.
He further clarified that wholesalers reported the chances of a price hike in the coming days. There was a possibility for hike in rice prices as the supply from other states slowly declined at one point.
However, as more supply is expected, the wholesalers stated that the prices will further fall.
There is no possibility for rice shortage in the state at present. Around 700 loads of rice will reach the state in the coming days. The minister said that rice will be made available at Civil Supplies stores for lower rates than the market rates.
