Unions are warning rapid antigen tests need to be made available to workers as soon as possible to avoid supply shortages.
Coronavirus sweeping through the port workers is slowing the supply chain and poses the threat of bringing the industry to a complete standstill.
Maritime Union of Australia Deputy Secretary Paul Garrett told Chris O’Keefe if the issue isn’t addressed, it could have massive repercussions.
“The consequence is the goods stop,” he said. “99 per cent of Australian freight comes through shipping corridors around the country.
“Our members who are doing 12-hour shift works aren’t lining up for eight hours in between shifts just to get a PCR test.”
