FAIRFIELD — City officials this week responded to questions and concerns raised over the Manuel Campos Parkway extension project, which has been about 18 months in the works.
The reason for the extended time on what is less than a mile of road work – part of the as part of the Villages housing development project – is supply chain issues, according to Bill Way, communications manager for the city.
“Lewis Development, the master developer of the Villages at Fairfield, is the project lead. The roadway construction has experienced supply chain issues in receiving materials, such as traffic signal poles, rock and concrete,” Way stated in an email response to the Daily Republic.
The paper had received complaints about the project and the lack of information from the city. Way’s response to the paper, however, was prompt.
“Additionally, Lewis has been working through the appropriate channels to obtain authorization to commence the work. They also have experienced delays from PG&E in energizing the new traffic signals at Mystic Drive and Dickson Hill Road,” Way stated. “Additionally, there is ongoing coordination with the Solano Irrigation District regarding the construction of the new driveway entrance off Manuel Campos Parkway.”
Way said those were just a few of the issues the developer has been trying to address during the project.
Way said the Police Department will be adding a presence in the area because of safety concerns of speeding traffic in the area, and said Lewis Development has promised to have overgrown vegetation – a possible fire hazard – gone before the end of the month.
“Lewis Development has advised that the weed abatement work will be completed by the end of the month, if not sooner. The recent warm weather and Red Flag warnings have restricted their contractor’s ability to complete the work,” Way said.
