Man dies after collapse at north Cumbrian factory

Futamura

A man has died following his collapse at a north Cumbrian factory.

Emergency services, including paramedics and Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service were called to Futamura, off Station Road in Wigton, early on Christmas Eve to a report than a worker had collapsed on site.

Alec Cole was taken to hospital in a critical condition, and two others were also taken for treatment and were discharged later that day.

A statement from Futamura said: “It is with profound sorrow that Futamura must confirm that despite the efforts of all the medical staff involved our friend and colleague, Alec, passed away in hospital on December 25.

“Our thoughts are with Alec’s family and friends at this devastating time.

“An investigation was immediately opened with the support of Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, police and the Health & Safety Executive and the company is co-operating fully with that ongoing investigation.”
