Located near the sea shore and at a distance from Kalamsar village, the unit caught fire on Saturday night and the local fire department was informed at about 9 pm. It took about 15-16 firefighting vehicles from five towns – Anand, Khambhat, Vallabh Vidya Nagar, Karamsad, Vadodara – and two companies – Gujarat Petrochemical and ONGC, to bring the blaze under control.

There were no casualties or injuries due to the fire as it took place at night. However, firemen reported extreme burning sensation in their eyes while fighting the blaze.
Mirror spoke to Anand SP Ajit Rajian who said that evacuation of Kalamsar village was not required as the factory was far from the village and it was brought under control with no injuries.
