LRT procurement probe, Chiarelli integrity commissioner report on city council agenda

A hefty agenda at city council includes a push to probe the second phase of LRT, and an interim report from the city’s integrity commissioner about allegations against a city councillor.

After learning that SNC Lavalin won the contract for the southern extension of light rail, despite not reaching the minimum technical score, two city councillors want an external probe.

The motion, by Capital Ward’s Shawn Menard and seconded by Gloucester-South Nepean’s Carol Anne Meehan, calls for an external review of the procurement of the second phase of light rail. The goals include making sure that the process is more transparent to the public in the future.

Councillors will also receive an interim report from the city’s integrity commissioner, about his probe of sexual misconduct allegations against College Ward Councillor Rick Chiarelli.

Multiple women have publicly accused Chiarelli of inappropriate behaviour on the job. Chiarelli has denied all of the allegations.

Chiarelli has been absent from several meetings, citing medical issues. He did not provide regrets for Wednesday’s meeting, and many city hall watchers will look to see whether Chiarelli makes an appearance in person.
