Live updates with Leicester drone factory occupied by Palestine Action protestors and production shut down

A drone factory in Leicester has been targeted by protestors who have gone into the site and reportedly shut down production. The Elbit site in the city was targeted at 6.30am today, according to Palestine Action – who threaten to remain until the factory is shut down for good.

The protestors say they have halted operations at the factory in Meridian Business Park, in Braunstone.,using a variety of tactics, including two protestors going inside and “raiding” the site as well as using a van to blockade the entry gates. The group says drones manufactured by Elbit are sold to the Israeli military and abroad.

The protest is not the first by the group at the Leicester site. Last year, protestors occupied the roof of the factory in action which lasted The protest ran from May 19 to 25, and resulted in court action.

Since that incident, twice-weekly protests have been staged outside the factory. A Palestine Action spokesperson today said: “This time, we’re here to stay.”
