Lismore’s Norco ice-cream factory gets more funding to keep jobs for another 10 weeks

A financial package to pay the wages of employees at the Norco ice-cream factory in Lismore will be extended for another 10 weeks.

Norco received an initial amount of $5.7 million in March to cover wages over the past four months.

That funding was due to run out tomorrow, meaning about 240 casual and permanent employees faced being sacked or stood down.

The federal government has extended funding to allow 170 employees to be retained for a further 10 weeks.

Norco said the remaining 70 employees had resigned in recent weeks, ahead of the impending deadline.

Norco said the extension gave the company time to complete a grant application for the Anchor Business Support Program, which would provide longer-term certainty on the factory’s future.

More to come.
