Kisan Congress chairman S Anvesh Reddy in a statement deplored the delay in payment for the red gram sold by the farmers.
Hyderabad: The Telangana Kisan Congress on Saturday demanded the State government to procure all the red gram produced by State farmers without fixing a ceiling of 4 to 5 quintal per acre. Kisan Congress chairman S Anvesh Reddy in a statement deplored the delay in payment for the red gram sold by the farmers. The Kisan Congress also demanded investigation into an incident in Gadwal district where certain people had sold 5,000 quintals of red gram in the name of farmers.
“This year, there were good rains in erstwhile Mahbubnagar district and the farmers got yields of 8-12 quintals per acre. The limit set by the government is hurting the farmers,” he said.
He further argued that farmers are now forced to sell red gram at a throwaway price of Rs 1,300 per quintal of the leftover produce, over above the limit set by the government. He said that it is unfortunate that unscrupulous people are benefiting in the name of farmers even though the government had a list of real farmers even before they arrive at the procurement centers.
“Both the Centre and the State are playing with the lives of farmers. Few middlemen are even purchasing the red gram from farmers at cheaper rates and then selling it at higher prices at the procurement centres,” he said.
