Learning Officer 

 

Reports To: Learning Manager 

Salary : Level 7 of AGIA Award $71,796 to 77,853 plus 10% superannuation 

Roles Reporting to This One: None, however the position holder may from time to time be required to co-ordinate the work of other Learning staff. 

 

Bundanon is a unique national and international arts and education organisation situated in regional Australia. Home to a valuable $46.5M art collection, bequeathed by artist Arthur Boyd, and augmented by a significant contemporary art collection, the organisation creates residential learning programs for students of all ages and operates Australia’s largest artist in residence program. Our distinctive public programs bring audiences together with leading artists from all fields, scientists and local voices. Bundanon has re-opened after a significant transformation, with the construction of a new art museum, education facilities and associated accommodation and café/dining to support a wide range of cultural, tourist and commercial customers.    

 

Bundanon’s practice-based creative arts programs are democratic, student-centred and designed for accessible and connected learning. Bundanon’s Learning Officers support learners of all ages and abilities from schools and the wider community. Bundanon’s unique learning sites inspire learning experiences that are explicitly connected to place and respect Aboriginal ways of knowing, being and doing.  

 

The Learning Officer is part of a dedicatedteam helping to realise Bundanons objective to activate its creative, architectural and environmental heritage through contemporary, evidence-informedlearning principles.

 

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES 

The Learning Officer will work closely with the Learning Manager to support and deliver the Bundanon’s Learning programs.  

 

KEY CHALLENGES 

  • Sustain positive, professional and effective communication with learning clients, including schools and busy teacher-professionals to support excellent planning and delivery of school visits. 

  • Deliver Bundanon learning curriculum accurately and inclusively, sustaining a strong focus on student learning needs and excellence in creativity education. 

  • Support coordination of learning events through creation of accurate project management records and preparation and management of learning materials. 

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

1) Administer the learning programs: 

  • Facilitate and document enquiries and bookings for existing and potential clients.
  • Connect knowledge of Bundanon’s creative learning offerings to make recommendations to clients on program selection based on their current learning needs and interests. 
  • Prepare and update Bundanon’s database regarding learning event bookings, clients and contacts. 
  • Ensure evacuation lists are accurate and accessible for all residential learning visitors on site 
  • Administer correspondence, invoicing requests, records and evaluation statistics for the learning program’s reporting purposes. 
  • Liaise with the Customer Services Manager and relevant Operations staff re site infrastructure and learning program requirements.
  • Coordinate meetings for the Learning Team
  • Undertake routine correspondence, file management, telephone and email enquiries. 

2) Deliver learning programs: 

  • Teach a range of art and design media drawing on evidence-informed teaching and learning practices.
  • Prioritise and enact pedagogy that supports learners to engage in critical thinking, creative problem solving, collaboration and experiential learning.
  • Research and maintain knowledge of Bundanon’s exhibitions and engagement programs, collections and Artists in Residence projects for inclusion in the learning programs
  • Share deep knowledge of the field of visual arts, creativity education and site responsive learning to assist in the development of new content, learning models and resources.
  • With the Learning Manager, consult with First Peoples to review existing and form new curriculum that is inclusive of and responsive to Aboriginal ways of knowing, being and doing.
  • Deliver learning programs in a manner that is inclusive, democratic and actively respects diverse learners’ prior knowledge, needs, abilities and aspirations.
  • Deliver learning programs working to a timetabled agenda. 

3) Document and promote learning programs: 

  • Draft documentation of learning programs (outlining learning intentions, materials, procedures etc.) based on minutes from Learning Team programming meetings. 
  • Assist the Learning Manager in the compilation of relevant internal reports and contribute to external reports.
  • Draft copy for Learning Team contributions to Bundanon website, program brochures and other promotional material.  
  • Maintain an archive of relevant documentation of the learning programs. 

4) Monitor and manage Learning materials: 

  • Use the learning programs and agendas to ensure correct and sufficient materials and equipment are in stock and prepared in advance of each learning event.
  • Maintain accurate records, neat and appropriate storage and care of materials in the learning art stores.
  • Undertake regular stocktakes and purchasing of art materials and equipment as needed and authorised by the Learning Manager. 

5) Liaise with learning and community-based customers: 

  • Communicate professionally with Bundanon’s learning clients including K-12 schools, tertiary, adult and other community groups.
  • Note any needs and interests communicated by clients that are not yet met by Bundanon learning programs and communicate these to the Learning Manager for consideration of future program development. 
  • Ensure the needs of all on-site learning participants are met, including liaison for visit planning purposes, risk assessments, communication with bus drivers and companies, onsite inductions and preparation for tours and workshops.
  • Ensure the safety of staff, customers and volunteers. 

6) Work with Bundanon teams 

  • Coordinate and attend meetings with internal and external learning stakeholders. Participate in theCuratorial and Learning Team meetings as requiredandattend whole of staff meetings
  • Other duties as directed. 

SELECTION CRITERIA 

Essential 

  • Degree or equivalent in visual arts and/or design plus experience in secondary school visual arts teaching or the equivalent experience in a gallery, museum or community engagement context.
  • Knowledge of the formal education sector, including an understanding of K-12 curriculum requirements in visual arts and design. Experience working with First Nations communities and individuals
  • Experience/expertise working with people of all ages and abilities
  • Ability to work in an organised and methodical manner
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
  • High level computer skills including competency in Microsoft O365 applications
  • Excellent written and verbal inter-personal communication skills
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends 
  •  

    Desirable 

    • Interest and knowledge of contemporary arts of all disciplines
    • A teaching degree or qualification
    • Ability to contribute to the development of new education program streams including built environment, architecture and visual design, or other relevant disciplines
