A high-flying lawyer has been arrested by police investigating a battle between gypsy mafias and football hooligans to control Rome’s cocaine trade.
Lucia Gargano, 35, was arrested on suspicion of negotiating a deal between some of Italy’s most dangerous drug barons after detectives wiretapped a meeting at a restaurant.
She was joined at the lunch in 2017 by Fabrizio Piscitelli, a leader of the often violent “ultra” fans at Lazio football club, who doubled as a drug wholesaler. He was shot dead last year in a mob-style hit in a park in Rome.
At the restaurant in 2017, Piscitelli met Salvatore Casamonica, a member of the Casamonica gypsy clan, who was representing Spadas, another gypsy mafia that was involved in a turf war.
