Law on defense procurement brings Ukraine closer to NATO – Kuleba

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has thanked all MPs who voted for the adoption of the law on defense procurement, which contributes to further integration into NATO.

“Great news! The Verkhovna Rada has just passed a reformist law on defense procurement. This is an extremely important step for Ukraine’s security, further NATO integration and strong and enduring defense cooperation with the U.S. I thank all MPs who voted in favour of the law,” Kuleba wrote on Twitter.

On July 17, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the law “On defense procurement” in its entirety. Some 276 MPs voted in favor of the document.

The law defines the general legal basis for planning procurement, the procedure for forming the amount and peculiarities of procurement of defense goods, works and services to meet the needs of the security and defense sector. It also provides for the procedure for state and democratic civilian control in the field of defense procurement etc.

The bill envisages a three-year procurement plan, support for the national defense industry, both public and private sectors.
