Large warehouse for Walmart planned near Indianapolis | Business

MOUNT COMFORT, Ind. (AP) — A 2.2 million-square-foot warehouse with space for 146 truck docks is being planned just outside Indianapolis.

The project for Walmart would be built on about 204 acres just north of the Indianapolis Regional Airport near the Hancock County community of Mount Comfort, the Indianapolis Business Journal reported.

“This is the largest out-of-the-gate industrial distribution building that’s been constructed in the Indianapolis market,” said Jared Scaringe, an industrial broker with the Indianapolis office of CBRE who is not connected to the project.

He said Walmart’s distribution facility in Plainfield, which opened in 2015, totals about 2 million square feet, but consists of two buildings. Walmart also has Indiana distribution centers in Greencastle and Gas City.

A Hancock County zoning board approved the project last month. A representative of Tennessee-based Carlson Consulting Engineers Inc. told the board that the company could not yet provide a date for when construction would begin, as some details are still being finalized.
